Big Sur Holy Weed

A legendary cultivar with mysterious origins

Pulled from the seed vault of one of our respected breeder friends, the roots of this variety are mythical and shrouded in mystery. Thought to be a cross developed in the Big Sur area during the 70’s-   There are a couple of stories behind BSHW.  One is that there was a beatnik dealer in the late 60’s that sourced some seeds from a high mountain valley of the Zacatecas region of Mexico and this was derived from the Zacatecas Purple. He brought this back to the Big Sur area and started cultivation it.  The other story, more well known, is that the origins point a monk named Perry living in the Big Sur area back in the 70s who developed this strain.

Heritage Notes

The Big Sur coast in the 1970s supported a small community of growers working in isolation on rugged terrain, and the genetics that emerged reflect it — including flower structures found almost nowhere else. California’s cultivation culture was built in places like this, decades before legal markets existed. Preserving these coastal heirlooms preserves the record of how the state’s cannabis tradition actually began.
