Watermelon Rancher

One of 3 first-place winners: Best of Harvest, Santa Rosa, 2016

Watermelon Rancher is the signature line from Blazing Oaks Farm, a multi-generational operation still working its original family homestead with living soil and no-till practices. It landed in the top twenty at the Emerald Cup in 2015, then a three-way tie for first at Best of Harvest in Santa Rosa in 2016.

The aroma is the whole argument: sweet, fragrant fruit cut with a sharp sour melon that carries straight through the smoke and leaves a tart finish. This has some of the strongest aroma of anything that we have grown at the farm. Parentage isn't formally published, though we recall that Kush Cleaner was in the genetics. Effects settle around the eyes and ease into the body — uplifting, creative, and balanced. An afternoon-into-evening cultivar.

*Note: WR is part of our preservation work at Sugar Hill Farm. The farmer that created it is no longer cultivating and we promised that we would try and keep this line going. Unfortunately, we only received seeds and are doing annual selections to recreate the original cut.

Heritage Notes

Northern California’s craft farms have made terpene expression, not potency alone, the measure of quality — an approach that runs against much of the commercial market at the time. Watermelon Rancher came out of a multi-generational family homestead in the Hopland area of Mendocino County in the Emerald triangle. Cultivars like this are part of the heritage of unique family genetics created and grown in historic legacy cannabis regions.
