Black African Magic

A legendary 1970s cannabis landrace

Cannabis breeder DJ Short famously cited Black African Magic (BAM) as the single strongest marijuana he had ever experienced. The seeds were originally gifted to us from a globe-trotting friend and respected breeder who came across BAM during a trip to Ethiopia. Considered to be a strain of legends, it’s one of the 5 rarest cultivars on the planet. Though we can not attest that this is the real deal, it is unlike anything else we have grown and the effects are truly unique. It has made a big impression every season—so much so that we had customers making the two hour drive to our flagship shop from the Bay Area when our retail partners sold out of it.

We did selective early veg testing last season with individual plants and chose remarkable outliers as we continue to strengthen the desirable genetic traits. In 2023, we found elevated levels of CBC in some males and females and backcrossed once more for this rare cannabinoid that promotes a euphoric feeling of well-being.

Heritage Notes

African landrace and heirloom genetics have contributed to many celebrated modern cultivars. Their naturally expressive terpene profiles and uplifting characteristics continue to inspire breeders and cultivators around the world. Many in the cannabis community, believe that the African varietals should be in a class of their own, with the unique effects that are extremely creative and energizing. This is a gene pool that we also find some of the rarest minor cannabinoids such as THCv and CBC.
