Farming Practices

Under the California Sun

Sugar Hill Farm sits on a hillside above Anderson Valley, where sunshine-filled days, cool nights, and ocean breezes create optimum growing conditions.

The farm and gardens were originally started by Rosemary, nicknamed “Sugar” during her childhood in Alabama. With an extensive farming and gardening background, she decided to grow cannabis for medical dispensaries as well as biomass she could use in a balm for pain treatment of her rheumatoid arthritis.

The property also has a small orchard that provides fruit for guests at our inns, 500 rose bushes, extensive shade gardens as well as established perennial flower boarders.

Nature Knows Best

Full-Term Sun Cultivation

The salt-kissed breezes off the ocean filter through redwoods before arriving at our farm. The misty mornings of spring and sun-baked afternoons of summer all leave their traces on our plants, building resilience and complexity through exposure to all of nature’s influences. You can’t replicate this kind of authentic, fully expressed cannabis in a warehouse. For the real cannabis experience, sun grown is the only way.

Living Soil

The roots are where it’s at. Healthy plants start with healthy soil. Biologically rich dirt—filled with micro- and macro-organisms, minerals, bacteria, and fungi—is essential for producing vigorous, well developed cannabis plants.

Regenerative Practices

Rather than using pesticides and industrial fertilizers, we opt for organic compost, beneficial insects, and hands-on care to grow our cannabis. The heirloom cultivars we grow date back decades, and to achieve flower as close as possible to its origins, we farm in harmony with nature.
