Best Practices followed by The Bohemian Chemist at Sugar Hill Farm

Cannabis has been part of the human experience for millennia, and at The Bohemian Chemist, we combine the best of old and new wisdom when we farm. Some of these time-tested methods include:

  • Regenerative Farming: Approaching the farm as a single organism, with particular attention paid to soil health and water conservation. We grow organically and practice on-site compost generation, minimal off-property inputs, and pesticide-free approach to preserving plant health.

  • Terroir-Driven Harvest: Just like grapes grown for wine, a cannabis cultivar will reach its full potential when it is exposed to all the elements, making it unique to the place that it is grown in. Our microclimate includes the influence of the ocean as well as the Mediterranean hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters to recharge the soil and aquifer beneath it.

  • Harvested in Stages: When a plant is 16 feet tall, it doesn’t become ripe all at once. While more efficiency-driven growers will harvest a whole plant at once, we harvest our buds in stages, to ensure you get the optimal flower, every time.

  • Grown Under the Sun: We’re happier outside under the sun and think our plants are, too. Not only does it result in excellent cannabis, it avoids the energy-intensive carbon impact that comes with growing indoors.

  • Hand-Trimmed: With our small-lot production, we find trimming by hand the best way to preserve product quality at every step. Trimming by hand allows a deeper quality control than automated methods so you are receiving nothing less than superior cannabis with every purchase.

  • Long Cure Time: Our harvested plants are dried in a climate-controlled area over 10-14 days, then they are held in curing bins for 4-6 weeks to allow the enzymatic process to lock in terpenes and cannabinoids, and to produce a smooth, flavorful smoke. Taking our time with these final steps prior to packaging in oxygen-free containers ensures you get flower preserved at the height of quality.
